It consists of 26 stages with total distance of 956 Kms. Via de la Plata or Mozárabe Road to Santiago, is the longest route across the peninsula. This route not only refers to the path of pilgrimage, but owes its origin to a set of Roman roads that connected the southwest to the north of Spain.
Part from Seville up to Zamora on one track, and it is from here that habren two alternatives: Through Ourense, by the Sanabrés Road to Santiago, or linking with the French Route in Astorga.
The name "Silver" has no bearing on the precious metal. It is not known for sure, but the most plausible hypothesis concerns a phonetic evolution of the Arabic word "Balata" meaning paved road.
Signaling all the way is good, though more austere than the French Way by long distances between towns, it is a bit crowded road, although each year the number of pilgrims that cross, especially in spring.
The marked routes here are indicative and are intended for campers because they are traveling by car and calculate considering the quickest route by road. If the road is going to do on foot or by bike, surely not the best route for it should follow the directions of the road marking or other means or specific maps to make way.
